KOF Playing Style
« on: 31 of January of 2012, 05:03:41 am »

Okay, now I know there's a lot of players that have different style of playing.

But what characters (Starting from 98) do you guys believe that you need to be an aggressive offensive player, and a defensive player?

Ramon is certainly an all out offensive character. He has no defense whatsoever.

Athena is more of a defense character, but she has some good offense technologies.

One notable example of her great defense tools, is her reflector (It even reflects DM Projectiles as well). Cheesy

I'm honestly thinking grapplers are the most defensive, and the ones with projectiles are the offensive scheme.

Disagree. Vice (pre-XIII) and Ramon are certainly NOT defensive characters. Both are either rush down (Ramon) or mid to close range zoner (Vice).

I'm not saying all of them are, it's a few who I think are.

Clark with his new Moves is a very offensive char. more than 2002, curiously, playing online, fireball chars are more defensive, only spamming in a corner, I always end up persecuting in all stage, some times when ends my patience I kick them of the room

Well, KOF it's not a game that allow fb zoners to dominate... at least not like the typical SF shoto-boring style. KOF has roll dodge, hyper jumps, counters with AB or CD, etc. even some EX moves have invincibility frames that pass through fb's as well. Of course, if you are also a zoning type of player you must be smart or good enough to make an effective fireball zoning game.

Quite a few characters in KOF also possess autoguard property so they can be on the offensive and defend at the same time, like Maxima.

I haven't got a chance to play KOF XIII and I hope this hasn't change but Ryo allows me to do both offensive and defensive.
As Running Wild mention about the autoguard, Ryo has several moves with this property. Especially his forward LK (B) or down-forward LK (B) are my favs. Otherwise I rely on frame trapping (King's Trap Shot and Ryo's Zanretsuken) for defense. Even though it's a risky move in my part.

In XIII, Ryo can use his df+B parry in blockstrings since it has a very quick recovery time.
