Oh, I remember this... I remember thinking about how they finally tried something different in the fighting game genre with this game. This was a long time ago when the N64 was the awesomest and renting games regularly was a smart thing to do (3 games for a week for $5!). Even though Nintendo tends to get the short end of the fighting game stick since the N64 days, I've always noticed how its fighters tend to try to shake up the genre, even if they're met with jeers. Castlevania Judgement and Tournament of Legends are another two that do this, this time on the wii.
I really liked some of N64's fighters, and I know how much hate they got from magazine reviews. Me, my brother, and my cousin were crazy about Mace the Dark Age. I think it had some awesome characters (I don't remember if it was true or if me or my cousin/brother made it up, but The Executioner carried the heads of his own children on his belt or something o_O), and since it was Midway, it was full of tons of crazy codes, like Kujo the chicken. I also really had fun with the Clayfighters series on N64. I miss Interclay, a lot. Also, God Wars... which I KNOW sucked, but I just really loved the Anubis character and one of the music tracks in the game... I still remember it like I just heard it a second ago but I really haven't heard it in years (maybe around 10 years now).
