Roy is clearly Capcom's rendition of Terry Bogard. His red vest and jeans would be enough, but he's even got Terry's power wave move, and a few similar priority moves as well

Capcom really loves vintage anime/manga. So does SNK.

But without those inspirations, we wouldn't have such cool characters.
