Games you played when you were young. Nostalgia time!
« on: 27 of July of 2010, 09:40:04 am »

Let's open this thread out of fucking nostalgia. Smiley

32 years old. So proud to be part of the Generation X that saw the growth of the videogame culture. Smiley

Let's have some nostalgia, shall we?

Enduro. 1983, Atari 2600.

First game I played, in those years I was mad for cars (me and my tender 5 years old) so enjoyed this game on my first console.

Outrun. 1985, SEGA. Arcade.

Well, when I saw this game for the first time in my life in an arcade I was in complete AWE! A FUCKING FERRARI TESTAROSSA IN A BEACH COMPETING WITH PORSCHES 911's, MERCEDES BENZ 500SL's, CORVETTE's (and our common VW Beetles). Played that game so many times I got addicted badly. Combining two of my fascinations in life in one was sure a lovely pleasure: cars and videogames together.

Super Mario Bros. 1985, Nintendo. NES.

I was mostly an arcade gamer even at my young age, and when I went to a friend's house around 1986 or so, I saw this and game was fucking addictive and hard as fuck, I remember. Became a classic and played it for such a long time until i got new games for the NES.... oh yeh, Duck Hunt too, of course. Don't forget to blow your cartridges when game didn't load, lol.

Double Dragon. 1987, Technos Japan. Arcade.

Well, technically I played first DD2 then i played DD1 in the arcades. So yeh, that was circa 1988 or so. Besides cars, my interest started tog row quicker in stuff of punks, gangs and shit like that after watching tons of movies that a kid of my age shouldn't be watching like The Warriors, Death Wish 2, Class of 1984 and all that stuff, so yeah, beat'em ups were attracting my curiosity quickly. These were the golden years.

Street Fighter. 1987. Capcom. Arcade.

Yup, everything begun here! The infamous Hadouken appeared and jerking-off the joystick was the only way to pull out the fb's, dp's and tatsus. Gosh, I so loved this game but sure was a sore hand after finish playing it.

Crime Fighters. 1989, Konami. Arcade.

I loved 1989! Was such a great year for games, especially arcades. Crime Fighters was still satisfying my needs of punks and street thuggish stuff, especially with its gritty view of the game. Oh the years of kicking someone in the nuts or getting ass raped by those Hard Gays enemies. UGH~!

Turbo Outrun. 1989. SEGA. Arcade.

I remember I saw this game in an arcade in a beach in Cancun. The same, was love at first sight. I guess I never played a game so deeply than TOR and was always aiming at the shortest times ever to beat the game. If in those days the internet was what is it now and were methods to capture arcade takes live, I'm sure I'd have done the quickest speedrun ever in that game.

Street Smart. 1989. SNK. Arcade.

Here it is! This is what started my love for SNK Fighters. The grandfather of KOF, Street Smart was a game I also played deeply and enjoyed so much. SNK started to build the scene of the fighting games... along with SF above.

Final Fight. 1989. Capcom. Arcade.

This was my complete fascination! No beat'em up looked so fine and so badass like FF in those days. Stylish, awesome, crude... nothing like beating the ass of Bred, Hollywoods, Poisons, Andores and Two P's while exploring Metro City. Sure those were the days.

Okay, that's enough for me for the 80's. Didn't cover much the consoles since I didn't play them so deeply like the arcades, but some worth mentions are the DD console versions for NES, Mario 2 (which also mastered), Battletoads, Contra, Super C and all those days of the NES (never had a Master System at home, SEGA for me was everything arcades with Golden Axe, Outrun, Altered Beast, and all those babies).
Later I'd continue with the 90's. Oh so great times there too.

X-Men: CotA and Disney's Hercules were 2 of my first PSX games...and I have fond memories of SFA3 on the PSX, heck my 'main' was Rolento, I just liked his QCF+P x3 move ;.;

we had a SEGA genesis and had the TMNT: Hyperstone Heist game which me and my bros played to death ;.;

Let's see, I started off with Enduro on the Atari in the late 80's, heck can't even remember how old I was, I wouldn't doubt that I was still on diapers when I played it.  Grin

Moving on, then everynow and then I played Final Fight at a bowling alley my folks used to hang out and took me with them.

Later my brother got a Master System I played the shit out of Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Phantasy Star 1 (That I never beated because my cartridge had a flaw in the battery that stored the saved games), Shooting Gallery (which was a great game if you had the pistol), Gain Ground, Shinobi, Ninja Gaiden (Which was great on the MS), Double Dragon and few others.

Later I moved on to the Snes, by that time I got hooked on MK 1 to 3, SF2, Blackthorne, Sunset-riders, Mario Paint (had the mouse and everything).

Not so long after that my bro got a Saturn, then I played a lot of Vf2, Daytona Usa, Mr. Bones, Soviet Strike, SFA2, UMK3, Lunacy, Golden Axe the Duel, Virtua Cop 2, Guardian Heroes, Elevator Action 2 Returns (Damn addictive game), Road Rash, Marvel Super Heroes, Darkstalkers and on.

Somtimes i'd go to the arcade to play SNK games, mostly KoF and Samsho, because either the console ports were bad or required the RAM cartridge for the Saturn that I didn't have.

I may not be that old (26) but I started playing with this:

yeaaaah that's what I call intensive gameplay and top graphics

then I passed through commodore 64, amiga, pc using only floppy disks (hdd were still far) but the only game I clearly remember was this one:

cabal (1988):

I sort of skipped the 8-bit generation (I had a sega master system but I really had no fun with it)

the 16 bit consoles were the real deal for me, but if I have to choose the best of that generation the clear winner would be super metroid, but the one that really triggered the action game genre for me was:

super castlevania 4 (1991)

perfect controls, 8 ways direction aim, superb music, dynamic backgrounds. best side scroller for me.

yeah street of rage 2 was my first genesis game. mk1 was a pillar of my childhood too, but I played mk2 much more on arcades and genesis.
