Self (Fan Fiction)
« on: 30 of December of 2009, 06:40:00 am »

I made a "what-if" fanfic involving Kyo meeting someone from Iori's Past. If you heard the Side-Story "Yuuhi to Tsuki - Prologue" (about a flashback of Iori's Past from 5 years ago, possibly during KOF '94) you will know some characters involved in this story.

"Self" (The Story's Title) is the OST version of "Yuuhi to Tsuki" from KOF '96 (This song is played when you finish the game with Kyo's Team)

The story is set in 2002.

Note: I might post the chapters if I want to. So it might take weeks or months before making the next chapter.

Let us begin...

Chapter 1 – Acquaintance

The year 2002, the first spring of the year has just started. It was evening in Suita City, Osaka Prefecture, the night sky is too clear to see a waxing moon towards the full moon. The cold evening breeze blows southward throughout the city.

Other than the moonlight, the city is also illuminated with various lights: lights from various vehicles, neon signs from various establishments and traffic signals.

The busy Osakan night is also surrounded with sounds from various origins, by vehicles beeping and their machine noises, by vendors shouting their products, by the loud music played everywhere and by people chatting through each other.

The busy Osakan streets are filled with people from all walks of life, salarymen walking back to their homes once their shift has ended, to students who decide to study at cram school, to young people enjoying the night life.

The street noise dies out in a building that is only lighted with a dimmed light showing the establishment’s sign as a music club. As the door opened the lights fade into the darkness for a moment, before seeing the dim lights on the club. The silence surrounding the music club was broken with cheers and applauses.

Then a voice of a young woman in her mid-twenties was heard performing a ballad as her final act. As the bass begins to play, she began to sing. As the lyrics goes:

“Sora wo somete yuku, akane iro… Nazeka, yasashisa wo kanjiteru… Dare mo ga mina, daiji na hito… Mune ni tomosu, maru de yuuhi no, you ni…”

Then the cheers and applauses suddenly became louder and it nearly eclipsed the accompanying band music. Then as the singer closed her eyes and breathed deeply as she began to sing the chorus of the song.

“Yoru ga kite… Fukai yami ga… Machi ya hito tsutsunde mo… Sou… Kese ya shinai…
Kokoro no nukumori, dake wa…”

Overlooked by the cheers and applauses, the singer actually burst into tears while singing the chorus to the song. Only a dating couple in their early to mid-twenties noticed the singer crying as she was singing the song.

“It seems that song has some emotional attachments to her.” The short-haired girl whispered to her boyfriend who wears a white jacket and a black shirt with a cross-shaped design.

“You are right.” The man said.

After performing the song, the singer quickly left the stage as she could not hold back her tears. The young man in the white jacket stood up and tried to walk towards the backstage to know why the singer rushed crying after performing.

“I wanna know why she was crying all of the sudden. I want to ask her why.”

As he was a stone’s throw away to the backstage. The owner of the club stopped him from entering. “Only authorized persons are allowed, this place is off-limits for customers.”

The young man still insisted to go in, and then his girlfriend stopped him. “Sorry, it seems he does not know where the men’s restroom is.”

As the customers went out from the music club after the show was over. All of the audience was satisfied with the performance of the singer. “It was a great show.” A man said to his companion after watching the show.

“I want to know why she cried.”  The young man said to his girlfriend as they walked towards his motorcycle.

“I may be satisfied with her performance, but I’m wondering why she cried and walked out after.”

The man added as he wore his helmet.

As the couple is about to ride the motorcycle on their way home, the singer, wearing a leather jacket, approached them.

“Thank you for your concern. It seems you were the ones who noticed that I cried while performing my final act. I admit, my performance is mediocre”

The singer told the couple who stood out of the man’s motorcycle. “It’s not.” The man’s girlfriend said.

“That song had some meaning about me.” The young man told the singer.

“It is such a good song, but why are you crying? Does that song mean something for you?” The man asked the singer why she is crying when she sang.

“That song… That song was made by my deceased sister. Also, that song was also made for me and someone I used to know eight years ago. We used to be in a band together for three years, but after that song my sister made, he refused and just left before we could perform my sister’s song. Because of him, my sister tried to live happy during the last years of her life. I never saw him for a while three years ago. To be honest, I have lost my will to sing after that incident, but for my sister’s sake, I must keep on doing what I wanted to do.”

The singer explained the reason why she cried while singing. The man asked the singer who the person the singer was referring to.

“No way… Yagami!” The young man was surprised when he heard the person’s name.

“I know him. However, if I tell you who he really is in my own view, it might dishearten you.”  The man answered back as he was about to explain about that person in his perspective.

“Please. He owes me as well.” The man’s girlfriend reacted.

“If it was not for him two years ago, while you were missing, NESTS might have done something bad to me.”

“Alright, I won’t tell it to you.” The man told the singer.

“We have not introduced our names yet. I am Kyo Kusanagi.” The man tells his name to the singer. “This is my girlfriend, Yuki.” He continued as he introduced his girlfriend.

“I am…” As the singer was about to say her name, she was called by another woman in her mid-thirties. “Miss Tanima, it’s time to go now.”

“I had to go now, my new manager calls me.” The singer bows out to Kyo and Yuki and hurriedly walks away into a car. As she rushed, an old piece of paper fell out from her jacket. Kyo slowly picked it up and read it.

“No way.” Kyo softly spoke as he read the letter. It was a draft of the song that the singer sang at the music club written by the singer’s deceased sister. “That song… It was really meant for Yagami, but he refused.”

“Yagami… How could you hurt someone’s heart?” Kyo slowly rode off in his motorcycle with his girlfriend Yuki as he was surprised upon reading the song’s draft.

No, It's just a "what-if" side story about Kyo meeting someone from Iori's Past. I just set the side story in 2002 because that is the "only year" that Kyo and Iori took a "peaceful" rest after the Orochi and NESTS battles.

Currently, Chapter 2 is on hiatus since 1. still brainstorming about the story further (It might only be a few chapters) 2. Other things occupy me.
