Yeah, SNKP Company President ragequits amidst the TGS 2010 Hype

Translation by Professor @ MMCafe
http://www.mmcafe.com/cgi-bin/forums/bbs/messages/13173.shtml#53877

Quote
Effective September 16 (business day 1 of TGS), Soichiro Hosoya, president of SNK Playmore, has stepped down from his position. Taking over Hosoya's seat is Ryo Mizufune, board director & chief, corporate planning. Hosoya will continue to serve SNK Playmore as a board director.

Hosoya was SNK Playmore's chief of content division until his reign as president on October 30, 2008. He is the most publicly known executive in SNK Playmore, making most of the company's announcements during press events.

From what I have partly observed. Under his company presidency there are more misses of SNKP and "wrong decisions" involving the company.

4. Cancellation of Various Games (KOF:MI2 RA and KOFMI3 comes into mind)
3. Horrible Netcode decisions (KOF '98 UM and MOTW for XBLA and, of course KOF XII)
2. Samurai Spirits Sen
1. Bad Decisions on KOF XII

As for Mr. Mizufune's presidency, what lies ahead for SNKP? A bright future or a dead end, only time can tell...

SNK need new people on the board, that much is clear. Whilst they are not a big company, there can be quite big differences made by making more forward thinking business decisions, being more aggressive at marketing and investment, and perhaps even reassessing and reorganising their development talent. Something really has to be done anyways, I hope this guy sees that.

thay could have done much better with arcade titles for consoles. they didn't choose their best games in my opinion and their porting were very mediocre.

after seeing what examu did with arcana heart 3 bars on the side to fill the spaces caused by 4/3 http://www.gametrailers.com/video/tgs-10-arcana-heart/704765 I just feel indignation for what snk did with garou to fill the space, that horrible artwork with rock's arm continuing on the left side is a proof that they don't care at all about their games http://media.multiplayer.it/images/2009/04/21/263275.garou-mark-of-the-wolves_a-per-x360.not_so_big.jpg

they also completely missed a big chance to make a lot of money with a crappy release of metalslug on iphone.

Hopefully Hosoya makes big changes with SNKP for the better and gets my Maximum Impact 3 and Regulation A2 on the way.

You mean Mizufune, Hosoya was the one who stepped down as company president?

Honestly, I would rather had the ugly background at the ones released in arcana heart 3, that seems to be very distracting

Now, I can't see how cancelling KOF MI3 and MIRB were bad ideas, what people doesn't seem to realize is that the company is BROKEN, they can't afford to make games who aren't that popular and that hardly will be saw with good eyes in the 2010 (I can't see them doing a beautiful game or at least a decent one in 3D without money)

That's the reason of why SNKP cancelled all those games to save money for XII and XIII, because they knew that those were the only games that could have save them, I mean, all this compilations and Lolis games were produced to earn money destinated to KOF XII

Like Vice Vecta says, isn't always the fault of the president (even though he has a lot to blame) but also, the staff, at least I always think that SNKP is not lazy like everybody says (even though sometimes they really are) the problem is that they really DON'T HAVE MONEY

This is way I never ask them to put 20 more characters in KOF XIII, everyone with alt outfit, because I knew that they can't produce that, I only ask to SNKP to take their time, put a good port, do their best to had a decent netcode, fix all the known bugs in the arcade releases and that's it, I don't want nothing more, they will release some characters, I'm sure of that

Technical Business Talk. What I meant is the decision of the management. A company president often has the final say (after talking with the board) to a business decision/proposal whether it is approved or not.

If it gets approved, it's on. If not, back to the drawing board for the staff involved with the proposal.

A setback (like bad netcode for a game) is just a part of the president's decision making.

Man, it's like teaching Marketing Management...

they don't have money to put a decent artwork in the background? they don't have money to create a decent netcode while even fans (not paid people) can create stable netcodes? they don't have money to release an exact port of metal slug on iphone where crappy developers like gameloft are making tons of money?

I can understand they have low budget, but they are not even trying to do their best with that low budget and they are missing a lot of chances to make huge money.

Again, what's the obsession with backgrounds?

They are useless, the 100% of the time I forget that they are there, in Arcana Heart, I notice them more that the game itself, and that's a BAD thing

Now, stop blaming for all the wrong decissions made in the games, I will blame more in those cases to the executive producer than anyone else

Hell, a little more and some guys will blame to the president that Raiden is Broken in XIII

And lol, gameloft is way bigger than we think, at this point any company is bigger than SNKP

you may not care about backgrounds, I care and seeing rock howard's arm on the left while his shoulder is on the right may not change the fact that garou is a great game but it's still a punch in the face. I don't ask for moving characters like those of arcana heart, but is it difficult to place the static artwork of the actual characters fighting on the screen? how long it is to develop a feature like this? 2 minutes of programming? on a game like garou with such a short roster maybe even 1 minute.

gameloft is a big society now because they jumped on the iphone train and produced a lot of clones of famous games for this phone. if gameloft made money out of this why snk couldn't? they could have done a lot of money with just the exact ports of metal slug, kof and card games like snk vs capcom card clash. and what they did? a metal slug where you are always in the tank!

I am not angry just because I want to be an annoying guy, I am angry because we may not see any game after kof XIII thanks to their poor choices.

yes, I understand what you say, I will love to see the characters in the background depending of how do you use, but at the same time, is something SO trivial than in the end of the day, is not somethng to blame SNK if it's not present

I don't know if it's my mentality that Fighting games as long as they are perfect ports, with a traning mode and a decent online I'm satisfied, then, the rest is only profit, but if it's not there, I don't care, hell, KOF98 UM lacks a lot of things, but since I had friend who I could play it online in a competitive way, I don't care if the game lacks of beautiful ground, re drawn sprites or 3d backgrounds

And also, the comparission with gameloft is still bad, both games produced by both companies are bad, but at least Gameloft has licenses that are widely recognized, SNKP has a problem with their name since the days of the original SNK, they could release the second coming of Jesus and people will still crap on them

I understand your anger, It will be a real drag that we couldn't see another game after KOF XIII, but you have to understand that this company has a lot of problems with shared responsability involving a lot of parties, and those problem has came long before the president came to the company, there is the marketing department who I highly doubt if even exists, SNKP doesn't have anymore an studio that they own, almost all the games has been produced by third parties, I understand why they can't get all the things in the way that they want
