After a long long long wait, Bomberlink, from
Bombergames
finally released this highly acclaimed rebuild of the classic SEGA beat'em up series
Streets of Rage.
It's been 8 years since this projects started and even though there were some beta releases, this final version contains each and every details from the 3 games of the series, plus some extra content tat would make any fan jumping out of happiness.
The remake itself has its own story, however, you can choose to play 4 different paths from SOR1, SOR2, SOR3 and a special unique scenario with some new stages.
The character roster has all the normal selectable players in their latest versions:
Axel, Blaze, Zan
and
Skate
from SOR3,
Adam
from SOR1 and
Max
from SOR2. But also contains tons of unlockable characters such as past versions of them and some extra characters that appeared in the games, such as
Ash, Shiva
and
Roo.
The game also contents a new mode called
SOR Maker
, which allows you to create your own setting inside the SOR universe, the mod it's quite user friendly and guides you easily to make your own stage with enemies and events.
This game is
FREEWARE
, therefore it's not for sale, anyone can download it here

Update: Shiva got me good on the last stage

Game's huge, awesome and full of WIN, ladies and gentlemen, yes, full of win.
I loved the game since it was not only a perfect rebuild of the whole SOR/BK series but also it brought tons of new refreshing stuff that could make up for a wishful SOR4. What also made the game refreshing in all sense is that it's not only a retell of each and every game but a whole new game that allows you to reminisce the classic games if you wish (but still with a little extra to give more consistency) or explore new, unexpected turns of fate by going in different directions.
It not only includes all the playable versions of all the characters and the hidden characters from previous games, but also new characters with new style and even some unexpected enemies joining forces. So game has tons of time to explore with the gameplay of each and every character (with revisions included) AND the huge map to go.
Difficulty it's high, even in Easy modes (which make the game playable for average skilled players), veterans with skill will find it quite challenging even to finish in hard, this is due of the speed of certain enemies (this can be toned down, in my opinion) and the use of all the skills properly (not a bad thing, certainly a welcome one since enemies in previous game didn't use all their moveset), not to mention their positioning in surrounding the player and find ways to hit in the right moment. AI in both enemies and CPU companion it's quite good and with more logic, though sometimes the CPU has little hiccups when it needs to go forward with you, but it's like minimal complaint.
Music is beautiful, obviously the reactions are mostly positive but since music it's always a subjective matter sometimes there's people who don't like it. In my own judgment, I think it's great and plenty of tracks keep the flavor from its original versions (Attack of the Barbarians, Expander, etc.) while others got a huge huge huge facelift (the whole Poets series, the Cycle series). I know there's a scheme of uploading an alternative soundtrack from the composers so guys stay tuned for more music in your game.
I haven't gone deep into the SOR maker or the mini-games but that proves that game still has plenty of things to do besides the normal beat'em up and i'm sure plenty of people would spend another huge amount of time on them.
All and all, minimum things to be refined, but that's certainly nitpicking. Game's out and delivered it with quality, no more no less.
Oh, and +1000 for the Double Dragon 2 NES homage out there... that was simply awesome!

This is my first time I ever heard of this project. I'm more of a Final Fight fan so I will play the first 3 SoR before I play this. That way I can get the feel of the difference between them.

Streets of Rage 2 is what made me a gamer.
This remake is just a masterpiece with so much quality gameplay. Sega should practically pay these guys for what they've done, it is amazing.

Beated it on the SoR1 path with a AI partner, it helped quite a bit I used Adam and put Max to the AI it did some damage.
Problems, AI sometimes takes it's time to move forward especially on stage 6 with those pressing plates, lost a life because the AI partner wouldn't move. Very little money gained to spend on the shop even though I beated it without using continues.
Still, the whole game is awesomesauce, gonna try to beat it on different paths or on normal with AI partner, they actually help a lot, and also since there's double the items there's double extra-lifes.
Edit: Ok, little hint to make more money, beat it on normal with an AI helping out, deactivate partners can hit eachother, AI Max did a nice job helping me. At the end I got 80k to use in the shop, bought one of the new characters they made for the game Rudra.

Rudra's quite awesome, actually. One of the best new additions.
You also should try Ash... he's simply awesome (and wait to see his police special, lol)

I'm aiming to get Shiva next, almost got the points to buy him, but Ash is next on my list for the sheer lulz.
Also, I checked the bombergames site, seems like the download links were taken down, only now Sega up and decided they ain't cool with it. They pulled a Square-Enix right out of their asses.

Well, Bomberlink asked me to keep the case bit quiet, but only thing i can tell is that hopefully by Monday things can either end well or... get the bleak ending. Gotta wait for it.
