Okay, time for another discussion of clarity, my fellow searchers of the Clarity.

Why Palmolive it's neither a palm not an olive?

The original product produced by Palmolive parent company was, indeed, a soap made of palm and olive oil.
It was so popular that the company was renamed "Palmolive" as it was their best product...


...At least thats what they want you to believe, In actuality the company name change came as a result of secret information that an insider needed to leak to Spain.
You see, The Spanish-American war of 1898 required lots of undercover work, so Spain sent their best man "Agent Palmo" to the United States to infiltrate the government.
Palmo was discovered while raiding government offices leading to a brutal gunfight and explosion in which 8 men, 2 dogs and a giraffe sadly lost their lives.
Things looked truly bad for the Spanish as the body of their best agent was never found.

Mysteriously, six months later, an incredible soap hit the market which was hugely popular, it's fame spreading far and wide, "Palmolive" was an international success.

But, for the Spanish, it was particulary important, for it was actually code being transmitted to their intelligence offices.
"Palmolive" was actually pronounced "Palmo-live" A cleverly disguised message revealing that their best agent was alive, well and bringing down the system from the inside via the media of body cleansing products.

Little more was heard from Palmo, his cover was only blown when he was killed in 1914 after his lead-based toothpaste product proved tragically unsuccessful in tests.
In order to cover up the infiltraition, The U.S government had Agent Palmo ground down and his remains worked into various Palmolive products.

The entire scandal is today referred to as "Col-Gate"

Well for anwser the o-wise one, one must take into account the associantions with both Palm and Olive.

Palms are usually associated with beaches, therefore when people see "Palm" they associate with that nice beachy feeling of being on the sand, watching the sea and drinking coconut water.

And the olive, well if you analyse olives were common in rome to the making of Olive Oil a very valuable product back in the day and when you think of Rome you don't just think of bloody Gladiator matches or Lions devouring poor sods, but you also think think of the lavish banquets, exotic foods (for that time at least) dipped in the most precious olive oil and all that being served by beautiful women wearing very revealing togas.

Therefore they thought, Palmolive would be a perfect name for soap.
