If it's anything like DOA Dimensions Ryu will successfully steal focus from any main character that's supposed to be the focus. But based on Dimensions' ending Helena should play a important role because...

The guy that posted the ending cut off the credits, so he didn't post the full ending, Zack came in on a helicopter and saved her post credits. Also she's already confirmed to be in the game via poll as I said earlier, just waiting the reveal.

You know those pre-order swimsuits we get? The 3 characters for gamestop and the other 3 for amazon I think. Well in Japan it was similar, but they got Kasumi and Ayane swimsuits, and then Team Ninja made a poll of female characters to let fans decide who the 3rd character in the pre-order DLC set. All the revealed characters (except Sarah) and Lisa and Helena were included included in the poll, which is why I thought Helena would be revealed along with Lisa and Jann this week.

Also Hitomi of course won the poll, Kokoro was a very close second.

I suppose it's to make their costumes more "complete" (otherwise there really isn't much XD), or to make the lady characters look more... ladylike/fashionable/stylish?
Actually, I noticed that non-barefoot costumes are in every game that offers beachwear.
