I've always wondered why VF lacked a throw button...

Dedicated throw buttons are bad game design. Pretty much every 3D fighter has you input two buttons for throws, Dead or Alive was no different in the earlier installments, but that seems of changed with the last few games.

I think two button throws are terrible in 2D fighters through.

doa throws are supposed to be performed by pressing two buttons (F+P) and they are listed like two buttons moves in the training moveset. since there's a fourth button on consoles pads, it was quite an obvious choice to dedicate it for F+P

DOA's layout was always Punch, Kick and Hold/Free right? Cuz I remember throws being performed with two buttons, but from what I'm looking up on DOA4 and Dimensions, looks like there is a 4th throw button.

Or is it like MK9 where there is a throw button present, but you can still perform throws with 2 buttons?

it is as you said. doa has punch, kick and free. throws are free+punch but it is also mapped on the A button, so you can go both ways.

Exactly my point. Who would want two button throws in KOF? That just doesn't make sense.

Oh, and English Dub confirmed, but I wonder how this will apply to the Virtua Fighter characters... same way as their origin series?

I really hate 1-button throws in all honesty. You shouldn't be able to just throw by pressing forward + HP/HK, because if you're out of range then you just get a normal, and if you're in range it's a throw, whereas 2-button throws only allow you to throw and you have recovery on it. Throws should not be safe.

Problem with 2 button throws in 2D fighters is it becomes nothing more than a panic button. Eat a jab? Throw. Walk up. Throw. Block an attack? Throw. Do a deep jump-in kick? Throw? Get knocked down and waking up? Throw. Then there's the fact that basic throws beat out just about everything if you try to hit your opponent out of them. It's retarded, just look at 3S and SF4. You have to constantly check for throws, making the entire game into one big guess and win game, and when you're thrown, you're put into knockdown state, leading to yet another guessing game. It's dumb.

I think the KOF games and Garou handled throws the best. I mean I've seen matches of 3S/SF4 where 50% of the damage dealt is thru regular throws alone. It's not that throws are "safe" in KOF and Garou, it's that you can't pull them out whenever you want unless you're at point blank, and also unlike the later SF games, KOF (And Garou) actually have hitstun and blockstun. You need to really setup your throws in KOF.

In 3D fighters though, it's different, throws aren't instant and you can actually see the start-up animation to them, allowing you to more quickly react, plus there is extremely specific range and timings where a throw will connect, unlike a 2D fighter.

Besides, in KOF you can't rush and grab. You must run then stop then grab, and knowing how fast the game is it's more likely the opponent would do something in between. Besides, most players have already learned how to get rid of grabs quickly.

In 3D's, grabs give a arm stretching animation that yeah, makes you react somehow how to remove it (you see top players RARELY being thrown, they usually escape grabs like a fresh morning). In fact, it's easier and more productive to hit a low attack instead, though sometimes mix and matching with different grabs it's fine.

So, which VF characters, if there will be more, should be added?

I think Brad Burns would be perfect, he'll be like he's at the buffet in DOA, and he's a way better kickboxer than lame ol' Zack.

Jacky would seem like a good choice too, he'd make a good rival for Jann Lee.

Certainly Brad would go!

Also DOA needs a badass brawler/wrestler, either Jeffrey or Wolf would be cool to be there.

I still prefer 2-button grabs to 1-button grabs. MVC3 made me loathe 1-button grabs.

As for what Virtua Fighter characters should be in? As a Kage main, I vote for him, as well as Wolf, Eileen, El Blaze, and Vanessa.

No more ninjas. Furthermore, if Eileen makes it in, I want her to be brutally defeated by Lei-Fang. Personally I want to see Goh, Brad, and Wofl. I always wanted to see Tina and Wolf "wrestle".

Naughty xD, yet viable Tongue.

However, If you think about logically, Akira will need a tag partner, so who is the person that will most likely be added that is diverse enough yet has some sort of bond with Akira that could join him in the game ? At the same time, that character has to have a very logical and favorable rival in the game.

My guesses are:
1 - Aoi: I see it a mile away, childhood friend who probably has a crush on Akira and wants his babies NOW, seems like a good rival to Lei fang and Hitomi.

2 - Pai: The leading Lady of VF Imho, she feels like she could also be an appropriate rival for Lei fang, but i say Kasumi as well.

3 - Goh: As Akira's rival, he has a chance in joining, he also has a very DOA-ish feel to him imho. Good rival to leon, bayman and if we stretch things, possibly Christie.

I want Jacky ... i seriously want him ... in the game i mean ( ok maybe else where ... guilty!), and Sarah cuz she is just awesome. Jacky could easily rival Jan lee, Sarah on the other hand ... maybe Helena ?
