Anybody got anything that will make me not suck at the game? lol.

I'm just so new to Capcom's method of making fighting games since I never seriously played any since SSF2Turbo. As such I'm finding it very difficult to respond to pressure tactics and managing to connect with attacks against some players, anyone got any general n00b tips?

^ B3 Ryooo anD k3N Smiley))

I know you, like me, like gaming as ladies, So try Asuka, who has Kasumi-esque reversals (you like Kasumi right?) Hang on, you LOVE Asuka, of course you'll be her.
and maybe Poison, who has Wising Tackle and KrAcK Shoooo!!! which you're familiar with from KOF.

A couple of super minor online things:
Learn to deal with, or lure then punish, wake-up special attacks and cross-up* attacks, as they are many an online opponents obsession 9 times outta 10.
Oh, and work on your anti-zoning, it's another staple with peeps on teh intarwebz.
Be prepared to fight Ken over and over AND OVER AND OVER.....
Learn how to combat Akuma, In both this and SSFIV you face a ton of people who think he's untouchable, spamming air and ground fireballs whilst keeping their distance through jumps/teleports and repeating the spam. There's no better feeling than flattening them as a response Wink

Most importantly, don't neccesarily listen to me, because I'm terrible.

(*do you kids still call them "cross-ups"? when you jump over a (usually downed) opponents head to f**k up their blocking psychology?)

Since I assume you're using Asuka. Not played Asuka a lot so can't say a lot on personal experience, but some issues I've seen with her in other discussions that I will just repeat. Asuka seems a bit gimped on a whole, best not to play her on point since you need the EX version of her specials. Has a hard time dealing with fireballs so need to partner her with someone that can get through them easily. She lacks a strong footsies game so her to get a hit confirm since she lacks solid pokes, really have to focus on her counter game and her EX command throw. Not a strong air game either, I think they said her air HP is her best in air move. Anti-air game is a bit weak without meter, but they say her EX anti-air throw is great. Not sure about reversals for pressure. Seems like a character you need to know the full ends and outs of to play her well, if you're using her could be a reason you're having so much trouble with pressure and connecting with attacks, going to be rough using her not being familiar with Capcom fighters for the time being.

Other females with counters. Lili has one, LP counters for her upper body (mostly head) usually used for anti air, MP counters for her mid section, HP counters for her lower body, and EX counters her full body.

Juri has a teleport counter, similar to Elisabeth in KOF, counters everything but throws, LP makes her go backwards, MP makes her go forward (goes behind opponent if close), HP makes her go up into the air, EX lets her manually control which direction she wants to go, EX seems to offer a bit of invincibility during her recovery animation (unless it was just a glitch). Juri's got strong pokes, good damage, her moves are pretty safe, and she doesn't really need meter outside of her super, would be a good choice to partner with Asuka for the time being.

Nina is the very last one in Don's post.

Anyway, impractical but fun to watch Juri loop on Hugo.

I do kind of realise Asuka isn't a very good on point character, but fortunately that doesn't matter so much since with the tag rules, you can use what she's good at (her combos are strong and not too difficult to grasp) and get out before her weakness come to bite her.

other characters I've been trying out are Juri, Ryu, Julia, Poison and Megaman. Julia seems very strong overall, although that's just in my limited experience playing the game.

but I do think overall it's more than just character issues I have, I just struggle with the fact the game plays too different from KOF and requires a different mindset to an extent on how to time and connect with moves.

Ryu or Juri, leaning more towards Ryu, would probably be the best of those to be matched with Asuka since you also need someone who can fend off grapplers, Hugo and Zangief seem like they would be her worst, or one of her worst, matchups. Ryu is quite beastly in this game so he would be a good starter point character for the time being because of that too, and he's good for getting the feel of the core SF mechanics as well.

Although Juri/Asuka work well together, so probably best to go with that team once you get the game down.

Edit: Also for pressure, use those backdashes. They're very important to escaping pressure.

^ you know as well as I do dude that it's just practice, the game really hasn't been out very long.
Pick someone, one of the three you mentioned, and commit solid time to them, it'll come naturally.

Shame you're not a Juri fan, she outclasses Poison and Chun-Li in this game and works better with Lili than those 2 characters. Plus she only needs meter for her beastly super so you can for the most part dedicate meter to Lili since Juri's EX specials over the normal versions is rarely worth it, and she totally rapes in the corner.

Anyway between Poison and Chun-Li I think Chun-Li might be the overall better character between those 2, so you just have to practice practice practice with her to get those combos down. Chun's fireballs seem good, solid pokes and you can special cancel far MP, down-forward HK seems to be faster for crossups compared to SFIV, her LK overhead slip special seems faster too compared to SFIV, and EX spinning birdkick is pretty beastly.

Not too sure on Julia since I've only messed around with her very little.
