Final Fantasy XIV Online
« on: 27 of December of 2009, 05:11:26 pm »

Square Enix has already started their Beta Sign-ups. So if you've got a PC that you think can run FFXIV or if you've got a PS3 and are interested in trying this game out it's best to sign up as soon as possible.

http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/

Pick your language, then click on the beta sign up button. Make an account and fill out the survey then you're set.

From the actual cam shots of gameplay that I've seen of this game... it's beautiful. The character movement phsyics look awesome... but at the same time since this is an MMO... I cringe at the though of all the graphics LAG that's going to be present due to high end character models. The console version of this game is clearly going to be WATERED down.

Uhh... wut? Lag because of "high end character models"? Huh? How is that gonna cause lag exactly? If you're computer can run the game full speed no problem graphically, that's not gonna cause any problems latency wise. That would have to do with the network/server stuff on the games end, being a MMO and all.

And how exactly are the console versions graphics gonna be watered down? Have you not seen what the PS3 is capable of? It'll be fine. It'll all look the same in the end, you won't even be able to tell the difference.

Graphics lag is where the game lags because of having too much stuff happening on your monitor at the same time. Or just running a game that can't handle graphics when the setting are too high. You can also have graphics lag from shitty coding. It's so easy to type it in Google and look it up.

I'm guessing you've never played MMO's... when You've got a few people on the screen the game can be running at 60fps. But if you're raiding and you got 25 people casting magic spells and the game drops to 20fps... that's called graphics lag. Graphics lag doesn't have a damn thing to do with latency and everything to do with frame dop.

... PS3 and 360  hardware is 4 years old... A $120 graphics card today can run circles around PS3 and 360 GPUs. I can tell the diffrence between 30 fps and 60 fps. Even World of Warcraft, with it's mediocre graphics, slows down high end computers when you've got 40 people mauling each other.

I doubt there'll be any problems with that. It's not like you're gonna have hundreds of people running with you in a party like in WoW or whatever. I thought parties in FFXI were alot smaller than compared to other MMO's to begin with? I know MMO's can get pretty crowded though... but then my only MMO experiences really are Guild Wars and Ragnarok Online.

But yeah, of course our PC graphic cards today can out perform what a PS3 or even a 360 could do, but it's not like the jump in the graphical difference is that big of a deal really. FFXIV is gonna look pretty much the same whether you play it on a PS3 or a PC, although I'd imagine it would be alot easier to run on a PS3 because you never know what kind of jacked up requirements they might have, and you won't have to spend more on upgrading hardware to play.

Anyways, I signed up for the beta. I'm not expecting my new computer to be able to run it at all though. If I even get picked for beta. I never played XI... there were times when I wanted to try it, but I could never bother with it because I am extremely picky when it comes to the MMO genre.

when you raid in FFXI you have 18+ people... when you do Dynamis raids you have 100.

Graphics lag doesn't make the game unplayable... most of the time.... it's just annoying. If it causes you to have anything below 10FPS then that's damn near unplayable in my book.

Anything below 10 fps? I wouldn't even bother if it was below 30 fps. I used to play alota Diablo 2, and on my old old old compy, it was pretty bad playing it with a full 8 person party in the cow level. Sad

I'm hoping this game at least has modest requirements... and man, I know the whole appeal of MMO's is being able to party with dozens of people, but I like smaller parties. I don't think I could fathom playing with 99 other people. Even in Ragnarok Online, it's a bitch in guild wars playing with 60+ people in your guild. It would lag so bad when you have your guild, your allied guilds, your enemies guild, and their allied guilds, on screen at once. It was just total unplayable mayhem bs.

I'll never play RO ever again. I been RO free for over a year now.

But I found a new crack.

Dungeon Fighter Online.

Well I'm sure on a computer you can adjust the settings and set the graphics to a minimum... but even so... this game still looks to be too graphic intensive.

With that set aside, I've almost come to the conclusion that the only thing that's going to topple WoW is either another Blizzard MMO or Diablo III. One of the reasons their games do so well is that they can damn near run on any computer that's been made in the last 10 years.

If WOW can run on my computer, I'll start shitting on socks and pissing on bottles. Too bad there's no way to sign up for the beta of this new Final Fantasy for the PS3, since I'm figuring it would be pretty much a free game for a while.

I think the Beta is for both the PC and PS3.

Yeah, but the website sign-up works first for the PC beta, and then later they'll show how to get the PS3 beta. Or something.
