The day gaming became a money making element. Anyone who wishes for a time when there were no tutorials and only an arcade presence is truly out of their mind in a way. The time you want to go back to was a time when a small amount of people had access to the game and then from those small groups only a tiny portion actually could play. The game's competition level player scene would be highly skilled and equally limited. With the way things are now everyone can try and learn the game and do at least the basic things. console version gaming allows you to learn and refine techniques that you can put to the test in a real match later on. It cost money to play in an arcade and you gotta risk losing your turn trying to test something out that you could have gotten down at home execution wise and even found out if it actually works or not.

i kinda agree with Kulie ... But on the other hand there is something about gaming in the past that has been lost.
I heavily disagree with the concept of judging a game by it online playability, i mean ... of Course its a very very vital thing to have for a fighting game, not only that ... it has to work well. The thing is, In kof XII case its basically the most important point, its why people pick on it so much ... because KOF XII is not made so you can just and play it alone ... The true fun behind the game is competitive play ... and since the online play in XII is not so good and you can't guarantee that you will have people around you to play i t with ... the game lost a large portion of its fun value.

I am seriously looking forward to KoFXIII. XII provided a good base for the future of the series. The sprites are beautiful and the clash system was a great addition. I would like to see the 2 button throw removed. It would also be nice if the CC system is revamped in some fashion. My only interaction with it was getting free hits on players fishing for CCs when their bar filled. The input system in XII is infinitely better than SFIV. XII is a modern 94 in a lot of ways. SNKP tore down the old, streamlined the systems and created a solid foundation for future games.

They created a hot mess out of Mature, Elizabeth, and Clark's movesets. Not to mention they have Ralf with Kevin Rian style tactics and the Incredible Hulk's body build. That last one is just being picky, I liked the old ralf, just like I loved the old Chin versions. He was much more fluid back then in 98 and 2002. I know I want to see more characters in this game, I am sure thats a given in many of players cases, but I'd give up seeing a single redrawn character if they fixed the game system and took time to actually do the characters in question a justice and give them their moves back. The new Elizabeth is not only awkward to play and underpowered, but she's actually glitchy as she loses two moves when her CC bar is full. They even tell you this in the strategy guide. Mature is just an after thought and you can tell. She has no moves, even her normals are lacking. Even in 96 she was better than this so I wonder what happened there. Same for Clark, he feels like he was rushed into the game with only two throws and a follow up. This issue was my biggest complaint with the game.
As single player experience I never expect KoF to have an extended story setting, but I feel that distilling the arcade more down to a time trial of five matches with no boss fight was pretty unsatisfying. So I hope that XIII learns from its mistakes and that SNK takes its time and gets the game done right this time. If not I say sell the company to Capcom and let them punch out Vs. series games. Rather have that than have nothing if the company loses anymore money.

Her 96 self was better than any of her further appearances due that she was simply fucking broken. In fact, you could win ONLY with standing CD and qbc B.

LOL you are correct in that sir vecta~! I was just trying to make the point that XII Mature simply doesn't hold up to the lofty levels Mature has been at in the past. I will say this about 96, I still like using Vice even though it often costs me the match until I get to Athena at the end of my teams.

I dont see anything bad with her normals in xii then compared to 2k2 / 98 at all. Her a2a are still decent priority but her ground normals are abit iffy at some points. Have to be spot on in distant telling in order to do cB x2 or to add another one in. All she really needs is her FB, her grab but 2k2um style (both B and D versions) and her qcfx2 A/C DM. She will be a great character with those editions but even now with the limited stuff she has, she is still a decent character, just too linear.

I don't understand why you're so persistant to sell SNK to Capcom
?
The best thing about Snk or why I like KOF that changing is everything for KOF or SNK. look at
94 to XII.Then look at Capcom that you play always with the same ryu. yes Matura,Elizabeth, and Clark don't have enough moves.Chin has different moves.Sometimes you don't like the new things.Ok.this is your choice.good or bad I wanna see something different and I don't wanna play with the same Kyo,Ryo,Terry or anyone.

@DC : you are right, she isn't half bad BUT she gets insanely boring after a while. Also, the things you mentioned that she needs ? we are agreeing on ... the mature in XII is like 50% of what mature was like in the first place, if they threw in all her actual moves at least she would have been 85 ~ 95 % more fun to use.
The deal with some wanting capcom to buy snk is simple, if XIII fails and SNK goes broke i honestly believe that capcom is the best possible choice for a company to take over KOF. I don't want arksystems taking over because god knows whats going to happen to the entire game; everything will change, from characters to story to system. I don't want namco to buy it because namco's specialty is 3d not 2d so they probably won't be using the game. i do NOT want sega to buy SNK because they can barely manage their own games with the terrible marketing choices they make. I would say that Capcom would be the most reasonable choice because we already know what a possible SNK game made by capcom could be like and i would rather play that and see the game survive longer than see it die a very horrible death.

Boring yes but if you are winning matches then thats all that matters (for most ppl). Look at ppl that use Chris (CD and df+B all day) or Goro (A, B, C, D pokes to the occasional throw).... How does that differ from Mature in XII? Or are we talking about the fun factor of the game again....Anyways, I was merely saying what move would be nice to have to a point where she is non linear. You dont need dp+A/C, qcf+A/C imo. Having a balance of useful moves to a point where you can be unique in her gameplay or with anyone else for that matter.
This talk about SNK buy out its non-sense talk. I dont know any hardcore kof players that actually play Cap vs SNK and use the SNK side. They stray WAYYY to far from what kof is and how it plays. A 4 button game transitioned into a 6 button...Thats crap. Same with Cap with 4 button SNK style....df+D to do MK or db+D to HK (or whatever it is). It just doesnt work.
If SNK were to fail (bankrupt or whatever), I rather see the series go with it then have someone else take it. Ive seen too many games that I like go to shit because others cant do it right like the originals.
Im looking forward to XIII as I still like and play XII and still think its a decent game. Too many pessimistic members here and its really annoying to see and hear....

I'm quite optimisitic, I mean with the time they've had up till now and with XII's assets to work from as a base this will not fail. Where the issue might lie is in the netcode again though, which isn't a massive deal to me (Streetfighter IV's online code around here is utter crap for some reason and actually worse than KoF XII's, hows that for strange?) but might still be an issue for others.
Hopefully SNK have took their time to work on everything.

@DC: in my opinion, in XII it makes a difference. You see, there aren't many characters in the game to compensate for that the existing character should offer enough, and mature is one of those characters that doesn't do that. She just feels very incomplete and TOO repetative which makes her very linear as you said. Chris, goro and even all the rest of the characters might have a very strong relyable combo but theres always other things to do besides those combos, no one can judge if it's useless or not but the player himself. Giving more options to a character is a good thing, Just see how awsome ash is in the game ... sooo many ways to play him; he still has that one awsomely strong relyable chain that is used all the time yet he has more moves that give him so many other options to use when selecting him.
I don't want Capcom to buy SNK, its now what i was hoping for. What i am suggesting is that should the game fail, I don't want any other company but capcom to buy the game, thats all.
also ... whats wrong with talking about the Fun factor ?
@Hyb: i am hyped about the game as well and am very optimistic about what is to come in XIII...
