Speaking of down and dirty... whatever happened with the friend and the ex? Will the ex overcome her defensiveness and succumb to the "friend's" embrace?

Ah!  That's the Author's Nemesis, who was introduced a long, long time ago and pops up every now and then.  One of the reasons the Author gets such a break on his rent is because he has to live next store to his diametrically-opposed nemesis.
